It is estimated that about 10-30% of women may have endometriosis.  This is a scar forming condition of the pelvic organs that may be associated with painful periods or painful intercourse.  It is also more likely to be present where someone has difficulty getting pregnant. Many routine investigations like blood tests and even ultrasound may not diagnose endometriosis and the best way to confirm the diagnosis is often though laparoscopy.
